Sketchbook #1 - About Me Collage

The photos are taken from several fashion magazines.  The photos are these that I would use, am using, and things that interest me.

Sketchbook #2 - Elements of Art

1) Shapes using a black sharpie and some color pencils to make roses.

2) Space with two sharpies to create a silhouette of a key with city-looking cutouts.

3) Line using a black sharpie and a sketched graph.

4) Value using a black sharpie and a black color pencil to create a scene with mountains and water.

5) Color using a red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and white (to help blend the color to contribute to that almost gradient-like look) color pencil.

6) Texture inspired by a common metal print seen on ramps and things like that.  I used two color pencils with different forces for different things to add a darker tone for the shadow to add an almost 3D like texture to it.

Sketchbook #3 - Symbols and Icons

To the left is a camera, video recorder, picture, music note, and a zoom in icon.  To the left is the Ying and the Yang, Greek symbol for life, heart, Greek symbol for creation, and a Greek symbol for fire.
(Left: Icons, Right: Symbols)

Sketchbook #4 - Assignment #1

The first image represents a USB, the second represents art, and the third represents books.

Assignment #4 - Book Cover Design

I chose to do Cheaper by the Dozen by Frank Gilberth.  It is a classic book that has been made into two movies.

Principle of Design

The four principles of design are proximity, contrast, alignment, and repetition.  For proximity, I recreated the statue of liberty using what would be "shards" of glass.  The space between the statue of liberty recognizable.  For contrast, I drew a tux.  One classic look you can never go wrong is wearing a tux.  That is so because the contrast between the suit and the shirt make it stand out.  For alignment, I drew random rectangles.  Although they are "random", their placement is not chaotic and it is somewhat organized.  Lastly, for repetition, I drew backwards 'J' like letters.  They look like hooks.  I think if they background was colored, that could be an indoor wallpaper.
